Browse Mode * Text file,Browse copies a file into Qedit, but will not let you modify it. * Open file,Browse also opens a Qedit workfile, but prevents you from editing it. * Browse mode protects you from making unplanned changes to a file and does not update the Mod-Date of the file. Edit Several Files at Once * Qedit can supply up to eight extra scratch files. * Do Text filename,New or TJ filename to create an extra scratch file for a file you are Texting. * The New command without parameters creates an extra scratch file for a new document that does not yet have anything to Text. Improvements to the Open Command * Set Open Defer On enables "deferred write access" on Open command. * Open filename,Defer and Open filename,Nodefer override Set Open Defer. * Verify Open shows you the nine most recently Opened files. * Open? lets you select which of the recently opened files to Open. * Open *-1, *-2, and so on, opens the recently accessed file of your choice. * When you do an Open command from the Home line in Screen mode or from the Next command? prompt, Qedit immediately displays the current screen of the new file. Screen Mode Improvements * Reflection for Windows 5.0 now supports up to 512 columns. * Set Vis Buf increases or decreases the size of the screen buffer. * Qedit detects when Set Suspend should be Off. Compatibility We have made two changes that are incompatible with earlier versions of Qedit. Now Assume You Don't Have a Type Ahead Engine To make Qedit Screen mode work with Telamon's Type Ahead Engine, you must now do Set Vis Tae On (the default is now Off). The default in Qedit used to be Set Vis Tae On, which meant that Qedit assumed you had a Telamon TAE. Set Vis Tae On causes Qedit to send ^A "V" on entry to Screen mode and ^A "A" on exit. Some non-TAE users saw the "V" or "A" on their screens. The default is now Off, since many users have terminal emulators with type ahead capability. Automatic Renumber In the Add command Qedit now automatically renumbers to make room for lines, unless Set Vis Renum is Off. In the past Qedit generated an error if there were not enough line numbers. If you need the old logic in some batch job or command file, you can disable automatic renumber by doing set vis renum off. Known Problems None. Documentation If you wish to print copies of the revised user manual, use the file Qedit.Doc.Robelle. To print it on your printer, whether LaserJet or line printer, run the Printdoc program. :run printdoc.pub.robelle Printdoc is menu-driven and very easy to use. Printdoc asks you for information, and if you are not sure of the answer, you can ask for help by typing a question mark (?). Printdoc supports all types of LaserJet printers and regular line printers. You can also print documentation other than user manuals, if you know the filename. If you wish, you can include the filename in the :Run command. For example, to print this change notice, type :run printdoc.pub.robelle;info="qedit.docchg.robelle" Documentation in WinHelp Format The Qedit and Qedit for HP-UX user manuals are now available in the popular Microsoft Windows WinHelp file format. A self-extracting file that includes the Help files and a Setup program has been put on your tape. Use the installation instructions to install the WinHelp files on your PC.
